During winter, with temperatures ranging from -40 to -15, the trees in some areas of the Finnish Lapland get completely covered by snow and ice. This makes for a unuique landscape, where everything is white and frozen as far as the eyes can see. That morning I slept in my tent to watch the sun rise from the top of a hill.

Awesome photography. These ice sculptures are a more benign version of templating trees than those made by the strangling kudzu vines (which kill the trees). If you ever make it to the United States, consider photographing kudzu sculptures (they are devastating the roadsides and are easy to find in the South East US).

FYI: I just blogged about this connection and referenced your work at:
Inspiring Natural Sculptures.

thank you very much, I read the article and found it very interesting, I didnt knew about the kudzu! So they are (or have been?) used to have more free land for agricolture, building etc?

Hi! I believe the vines were used to grow on steep, rocky slopes to decrease erosion (decrease mud slides) alongside the US highways; they grew too well. I do not think people intended to use them for creating sculptures, but they work well for that. In fact, I think it may be illegal to intentionally grow or nurture the weed. Browsing some internet sites, I have seen beautiful images in which the vines have covered barns, houses, and cars. BTW: your photo's rock. I'll keep watching. Cheers, Seth
